Benjarong, an award-winning Thai restaurant in Dusit Thani is famous for some authentic Thai cuisine served in a traditional Thai ambience. Entering the restaurant gives you a sense of calm. There is live music which is pleasant to the ears and the staff welcomes you with a big smile. We were basically here to try out their newest offering, the Thai hot pot.
Our experience started with 2 very interesting drinks, the Choco- tini and Mai Thai. The prawn crackers arrived just as we sipped onto our drinks. These crackers were served with a roasted Chilli paste and went really well with the drinks. In came an array of delicious starters which really gave us the sense of how amazing Thai cuisine is. First up was the chicken satay with an insane peanut sauce. The meat was succulent. Thai fish cakes came in next, served with a sweet Chilli sauce, these curry flavoured cakes were delicious. Chicken wrapped with pandanus leaves was yet another Thai favourites that we enjoyed, this is served with a thick sweet soya taste of which will remain with you for the entire evening. the one starter which disappointed was the khow pod tod, fried corn balls served with a sweet Chilli sauce lacked flavour and couldn’t match up with all the other amazing dishes.
For the mains, we had the Thai hot pot. You can choose from seafood, meat or vegetarian options. A hot pot with broth is placed on the table and once it starts bubbling your choice of meat or veggies are added to the same. It takes about a minute or two to cook and is served with a spicy Thai sauce. It’s perfect for the Dubai winters and a perfect recipe for a light healthy dinner. For desserts, we had the classic sticky rice with mango, coconut ice cream with peanuts and water chestnuts in coconut milk. The coconut ice cream was my favourite of the lot. All in all, it was a royal and satisfying experience at Benjarong. I will definitely come back to try their curries and pad Thai next time.
