French cuisine is something I’m not too familiar with *confession*. It was always on my mind to try a classic French restaurant and my search ended at Couqley. Located in the JLT’s Cluster A, Couqley is a gorgeous restaurant boasting of a huge seating capacity spread across a wide area. The place is classy and gives you a feeling of sophistication.
The Menu comes in a beautiful cover and Couqley’s first impression is already amazing. Our well-informed server Vijay ran us through their specialties. Couqley offers and interesting selection of meat, seafood, and vegetarian options. We started off with some salads, The Couqley Caeser salad with grilled chicken was done in a classic way and tasted delicious. Salad de Chèvre Chaud is their house special consisting of goat cheese spring rolls, some mixed greens, apples, oranges and a lovely vinaigrette. For starters, we had the Burrata and let me tell you this is one good burrata. Burrata is an Italian cheese made from mozzarella and cream, which has a soft interior. This was served with fresh arugula and vegetables. Next up was a simple yet tasty appetizer called the Poêlée de champignons– sautéed mushroom served with puff pastry. To wash all of this down we had a Mixed Berry Cocktail– stunning in presentation and taste, Virgin Mojito – pretty good too.
Their selection of mains is pretty amazing too, right from the beef cuts, to their fresh fish and chicken, everything is taken pretty seriously. My friend ordered the Beef Steak and I ordered the Grilled Chicken Aux Tagliatelle. I could see my friend enjoy the beef filet which was pan fried and served with a special sauce and fries. He instantly fell in love with the Beef and the sauce, while I enjoyed the crispy grilled chicken with some creamy mushroom tagliatelle.
Desserts was a difficult choice to make as they have some classics on the menu and we didn’t have much space in our tummies. We ordered the very french Pain Perdu which is a French toast drizzled with caramel and topped with vanilla ice cream- Absolutely heavenly. Couqley is a classy place for a sumptuous French meal. One of the must visit places in JLT.
