Grub Shack is an uber cool restaurant in healthcare centre which serves food from western coastal regions of Goa and Bombay. Yes, you can expect a lot of seafood but that’s not all, Grub Shack has street Chinese too which is pretty famous in this part. Their drinks menu is another plus. The decor is beautiful and they have a small and quirky outdoor setup. The owners tell me that the food is inspired by their journey from Bombay to Goa for all these years. Every dish has a twerk to it and if you ask me, they have pretty much succeeded in what they were trying to achieve.
My friend was in the mood for a hot bowl of hot and sour soup and it was delicious. We instantly knew that this place wouldn’t disappoint us. Next up, We ordered some of their best appetizers. Fried calamari twist, Gemma’s Double Dragon King Prawns and Stir Fry Lollipops. The calamari was brilliant and so was the dragon prawns. The chicken lollipops weren’t bad either. Grubshack does not serve alcohol but they do have a fantastic mocktail menu. We had two of their best three nojito- Mango and Chilli, Yuzu Lemon and Mint. We also ordered the Virgin Pina Colada and the Thunder Thai Cooler. To be absolutely frank, I loved all 4 of the drinks.
We tried to stick to their Goan food for the mains for some reason. It was a grand Goan feast on the table with some Mango Fish Curry, Beef Chilli, Chicken Cafreal with Portuguese bread and Kingfish Racheado. I personally didn’t like their cafreal and my friend felt the beef chilli was average but the other dishes were spot on. The fish curry was spicy and well went with the hot steamed rice alongside the Goan classic fish racheado. After such a sumptuous meal I ordered for their famous smokin’ masala infused chai [AED 20] which is the best and literally smokin’. I hope they work on their own dessert menu really soon as they don’t have one. Though they have the brilliant kulfilicious on board to do the job. We thoroughly enjoyed the kulfi falooda. All in all, Grub Shack is a great place which serves very good food and I’m definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu.
