North Indian food is something really close to my heart, it’s not common for a Goan to say that but well I never really liked fish that much. It’s pretty difficult to get the taste and the flavors of North India cuisine in Goa. The Yellow Chilli, a restaurant brand started by celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor has branches in various parts of India as well as abroad. Located in Goa’s newest mall, Mall de Goa, The Yellow Chilli is just the perfect place to satisfy your North Indian food cravings.
The decor feels very much like Goa, a nice calm ambiance perfect for all kinds of gatherings. The wall murals are true to the spirit of Goa. The menu also has quite a few regional specialties, but I opted for their North India fare. I started off with their delightful mocktail, the Payru Pyala, a guava drink spiked up with salt & chili. Next up, we had the Santri Murg chaat which basically was a chicken salad with the freshness of a zesty orange and Shabnam ke Moti, a stuffed mushroom dish topped with cheese I’m sure you’re gonna love.
The Lawrence road chicken tandoori that came in next was packed with flavors and had no food color, so that was a plus. Chawrangee Chilli chicken which draws its roots from streets of Kolkata was yet another tempting affair. We also had the catch of the day, the kingfish in a Tawa masala fry preparation.
I was so full with the starters but couldn’t resist having some of their house favorite main course items. Their mutton kheema is one of the best you’ll find in Goa, pair it with a few roomali rotis and you are good to go. The Murg Dum Biryani came in a clay pot, slow cooked to give you a more authentic taste. You don’t want to miss the desserts that are on offer. The Gulab -e – Gulkhand came as a big warm jamun with a sweet preserve of rose petals. The next one was the kulfi with rabdi. Love the fact that everything here made in-house and from scratch. As I have mentioned earlier they have a good regional Goan menu if you crave for fish curry and rice, but if someone really loves North Indian food then a trip to The Yellow Chilli is a must.
